Meet Mr. Sumeet Silwal—Your Guide for Cultural and History Tours in Nepal

If you are curious about Nepal’s soul beyond its mountains, you’ll want to meet Mr. Sumeet Silwal. Born in Dhading’s Benighat Rorang village, along the lifeline highway connecting Kathmandu, Pokhara, and Chitwan. Sumeet grew up surrounded by stories, traditions, and the living heritage of Nepal.

With 22 years of guiding experience, over a decade of which has been with Trekking Trail Nepal, his journey is nothing short of inspiring. He began his career as a humble trekking porter and, through education, hard work, and dedication, rose to become a respected mountain, cultural, and history guide.

Holding a postgraduate degree in Nepalese History, Culture, and Archaeology (NeHCA), Sumeet has devoted his life to preserving and sharing Nepal’s heritage. Since 2020, he has been actively involved in archaeological research projects, leading 11 initiatives that document both tangible and intangible cultural heritage across Nepal, from the fertile Indian plains to the remote Himalayan regions.

One of his most notable contributions is his research-driven platform, “Youth and Children for Heritage,” which encourages the younger generation to value and protect their cultural roots. Alongside this, he is pursuing his MPhil/PhD at Tribhuvan University’s Central Department (NeHCA), focusing on heritage conservation.

Sumeet’s expertise has also reached international recognition. He has been part of a JAICA-funded excavation project in Tilaurakot, led by Prof. Dr. Robin Coningham (Cultural Head of UNESCO, Durham University, UK). This site, believed to be where Prince Siddhartha Gautam spent 29 years before beginning his journey as the Buddha, is one of Nepal’s most important archaeological treasures. His role in this project highlights his standing as a living custodian of Nepalese history and culture.

With Trekking Trail Nepal, Sumeet leads heritage, cultural, and religious tours and research-based holiday travel, offering travelers not just sightseeing, however a true understanding of Nepal’s identity and legacy. His passion for storytelling, academic depth, and field experience make every trip with him an enriching cultural journey.
